History
The Association was established in 1932. The founding members mainly consisted businessmen in the bicycle trade. As Singapore became more developed and prosperous, however, motor vehicles and other much advanced forms of transportation replaced bicycles and trishaws as the main modes of transportation. As a result, members of the Association are now mainly dealers of motor vehicle parts and accessories.
Objectives
The Association aims to promote unity, to foster friendship among fellow members, to enhance the business prospects for its members and to carry out welfare work in the community.
Information Service
The Association is made known globally through a network of international trade and commercial institutes. Relevant overseas trade enquiries are channeled through these bodies to members. In addition to trade enquiries, statistics such as those on motor vehicle registrations, imports and exports of motor vehicles and parts and accessories, information on the latest technological developments within the motor industry and other relevant news are compiled by the Association for members’ use and reference. The Association also often acts as a source of reference for visiting individuals or trade missions who are looking for local contacts.
Social & Sports
The Association occasionally organises get-togethers for members, their employees and families to foster closer relationships among them. In addition, the Association organises sports and recreation activities each year. For the past few years, tournaments held include chess, carom, dart, bowling, squash, badminton, table tennis, golf and karaoke. Supported by generous prize sponsorships from patrons, these have been well received by members and their employees.
